The School of Medicine activitly seeks to build cultural and ethnic diversity across its research, educational and patient care activities.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Under the direction of Senior Associate Dean &lt;a href="http://med.stanford.edu/profiles/gcrc/faculty/Hannah_Valantine/"&gt;Dr. Hannah Valantine&lt;/a&gt;, MD, the Office of Diversity and Leadership works to recruit and retain diverse faculty, students, trainees and staff to enhance the excellence of our academic and service programs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dr. Valantine has initiated an &lt;a href="http://med.stanford.edu/community/diversity/"&gt;Office of Diversity &amp;amp; Leadership&lt;/a&gt; evaluation.  This will provide the Office with a feedback mechanism that will be used to inform decision making and help the Office accomplish its objectives.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dr. Valantine has  appointed &lt;a href="http://www.stanford.edu/%7Edavidf"&gt;Dr. Fetterman&lt;/a&gt;, Director of Evaluation, in the School of Medicine's &lt;a href="http://med.stanford.edu/evaluation"&gt;Division of Evaluation&lt;/a&gt;, to provide the Office with an evaluation design and assist with the implementation of the evaluation design.  Dr. Fetterman has selected an &lt;a href="http://eevaluation.blogspot.com/"&gt;empowerment evaluation&lt;/a&gt; approach, which is a participatory approach to assessment. The workshop will focus on three steps:  1) mission of the office; 2) taking stock of activities or current operations; and 3) planning for the future (strategic plans and tools to monitor change over time).
